The risk for placenta previa is significantly increased in women who have previously had a cesarean delivery, and the risk increases with parity and the number of cesarean deliveries, researchers report in the June issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In a case-control study, Dr. Melissa Gilliam and colleagues, from the University of Illinois at Chicago, studied 316 multiparous women with placenta previa and 2051 multiparous women who had spontaneous vaginal deliveries.
