Serum leptin levels are lower in anorectic women than in women with normal body mass index (BMI) and those with low BMI, according to a report in the August issue of Fertility and Sterility.
In a prospective study, Dr. Constantino Di Carlo, of the University of Naples “Federico II,” Italy, and colleagues examined serum leptin levels in 14 amenorrheic women with anorexia nervosa (group A), 11 menstruating women with a low BMI (group B), and 20 menstruating women with a normal BMI (control group).
