Enzyme replacement therapy for type 1 Gaucher disease effectively curbs disease progression and ameliorates anemia, thrombocytopenia, and other specific clinical manifestations for up to five years, according to a report in the August issue of the American Journal of Medicine.
A multicenter team led by Dr. Neal J. Weinreb of the University Gaucher Treatment Center in Tamarac, Florida presents data on the 2- to 5-year effects of enzyme replacement therapy with alglucerase (Ceredase; Genzyme) or imiglucerase (Cerezyme; Genzyme) in 1,028 patients in the Gaucher Registry
