Preoperative serum tissue polypeptide specific antigen (TPS) levels–an indicator of cell proliferation–correlate with the risk of recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after curative resection, according to a report in the July 1st issue of Cancer.
TPS secretion parallels DNA synthesis, protein synthesis, and cell division, the authors explain, and serum TPS has been correlated with patient survival rates in other types of malignancies.
