High TT virus load independently predicts the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic liver disease related to hepatitis C virus, according to a report in the August Journal of Medical Virology.
TT virus (TTV) is likely acquired in early childhood and is prevalent in adults, who may be coinfected with several of the more than 40 genotypes, the authors explain. The role of TTV in hepatocellular cancer remains controversial.
