In areas of high hepatitis C virus (HCV) endemicity, most infected individuals will be missed with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) screening, according to a report published in the July issue of the Journal of Medical Virology.
Dr. Tommaso Stroffolini, from the Laboratory of Epidemiology in Rome, and colleagues evaluated the prevalence of, and risk factors for, HCV and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections in 721 residents of a small town in Sicily.
