MADRID (Reuters Health) Apr 18 – Peginterferon alfa-2a plus ribavirin induces a sustained virologic response of 61% in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, investigators announced here Thursday at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Liver.
Dr. Donald Jensen, of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, presented results of a phase III study of Pegasys (Roche) plus ribavirin in 1284 patients with HCV infection. Among patients with HCV genotype 1, fifty-one percent had a sustained virologic response, or undetectable serum HCV RNA levels six months after discontinuation of therapy.
