Drinking Linked With Elevated Blood Pressure in Older Adults

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 31 – The older a person is, the greater the effect drinking alcohol has on increasing blood pressure, Japanese researchers report. However, light drinking does not appear to affect cholesterol levels.

Dr. Ichiro Wakabayashi, of Yamagata University, and Dr. Rie Kobaba-Wakabayashi of Hyogo College of Medicine, studied 12,386 men between the ages of 20 and 69 years. They divided subjects into five age groups and then further divided them into three groups according to alcohol consumption.
