NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 22 – Elevated serum immune complex levels appear to be a risk factor for stroke, and for poor clinical outcomes among acute stroke patients, according to a report published in the April issue of Stroke.
Dr. Anna Czlonkowska and colleagues, from the Medical Academy in Warsaw, Poland, compared the serum immune complex levels of 179 acute stroke patients with those of 122 "old" (54 to 91 years) and 112 "young" (19 to 41 years) control subjects. In stroke patients, immune complex levels were measured within 24 hours of the event and 7 and 30 days later.
