Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Levels Not Associated with Microalbuminuria or Retinopathy in Diabetics

Individuals with type 2 diabetes who have microalbuminuria or retinopathy are not necessarily at greater risk of having elevated concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

Investigators from Fukushima Medical University, in Fukushima, Japan, measured plasma concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor in 36 normoalbuminuric, 21 microalbuminuric and 14 proteinuric patients.
