Angiotensin-Converting Inhibition Fails To Ward Off Retinopathy In Normotensive Diabetics

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition for moderate to severe diabetic retinopathy is unlikely to help normotensive type 2 diabetic patients. A pilot study was stopped prematurely after a mean duration of 7.2 months because small doses of enalapril did not retard the progression of moderate to severe diabetic retinopathy.

Earlier reports had indicated that angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors might have a beneficial effect on mild diabetic retinopathy.
