Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Predisposes to Type 2 Diabetes

German researchers have shown that a single genetic risk factor could be responsible for around 15% of all cases of type 2 diabetes.

According to a report from researchers at the Technical University of Braunschweig, a common polymorphism that induces overactivity of pancreatic beta-cell ATP-sensitive potassium channels enhances susceptibility to type 2 diabetes.
