Both endocrinologic and morphologic beneficial effects from laparoscopic ovarian drilling appear to be sustained for up to nine years among most women patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. This finding emerges from a follow-up study of 116 anovulatory women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who underwent laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD).
They were compared with 34 anovulatory women diagnosed with PCOS, but who had not undergone LOD. Dr Jesse Wing and colleagues at the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, England, point out that there is considerable controversy about how long the effects of LOD last among women.
