The development of de novo diabetes is a serious complication of kidney transplantation and is an independent predictor of reduced survival for renal transplant recipients.

Fernando G. Cosio, MD, and colleagues at the Ohio State University Medical Center, in Columbus, Ohio, United States, examined the cardiovascular risk profile of patients with post-transplant diabetes and assessed the impact of the disease on their survival.
