The novel topical triazole KP-103 appears more effective than either amorolfine or terbinafine in treatment of tinea unguium and plantar tinea pedis in a guinea pig model, Japanese researchers report in the December issue of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
Dr. Tatsumi Yoshiyuki of Kaken Pharmaceutical Company, Kyoto, and colleagues note that of dermatophytoses, tinea unguium is the most resistant and “there is a clear need for new antifungal drugs that can be administered topically” to effect a cure more swiftly and safely than is currently the case.
