NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 05 –
Adjuvant vaccination with tyrosinase corresponding to patients’ HLA type, administered along with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), resulted in
prolonged relapse-free intervals in two patients with frequently relapsing stage IV melanoma.
According to Dr. Ulrich Keilholz of Freie Universtitat Berlin and colleagues in Germany,
vaccinations were given i.d. and s.c. at 200 µg in the proximal thigh close to the inguinal lymph nodes at weeks 0, 2, 4, 6, 10 and 14. GM-CSF 75 µg was also administered at the same site for 4 days after each peptide vaccination. Both patients were free of disease when the vaccination regimens were initiated.
