Outcomes of AMI in Diabetics Better With Primary Angioplasty Than With Fibrinolysis

After acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in patients with diabetes mellitus, early and late adverse events are less frequent with primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) than with fibrinolytic treatment, cardiologists from the National Heart Centre in Singapore report.

As they describe in the September issue of Heart, Dr. Koon-Hou Mak and colleagues evaluated outcomes for patients with diabetes who underwent reperfusion treatment within 6 hours of the onset of ST segment elevation AMI.
