In women with inherited causes of thrombophilia who have a history of obstetric complications, fetomaternal outcomes may be improved by instituting low-dose heparin or aspirin prophylaxis, Italian researchers have found.
Dr. Elvira Grandone, of “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” in Foggia, and colleagues identified women referred to their clinics who had experienced repeated or recurrent pregnancy losses, gestational hypertension, HELLP syndrome or fetal growth restriction.
Of patients who tested positive for the factor V Leiden mutation or factor II A-20210 mutation or both, a total of 25 again became pregnant, the researchers report in the August issue of Fertility and Sterility.
