– Patients have experienced significantly better outcomes since the widespread use of stents during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), Swedish researchers report.
Dr. Lars Grip and colleagues from Sahlgrenska University Hospital, G teborg, compared the outcomes of 590 patients who underwent PCI between July 1992 and June 1993, 3.7% of whom received stents, with the outcomes of 768 patients who underwent PCI between July 1996 and June 1997, 64.7% of whom received stents.
All subjects were followed for at least 1 year, according to their report in the July 15th issue of the American Journal of Cardiology.
