An association has been identified between Angiotensin I-converting enzyme DD genotype and the midterm increased mortality and morbidity following cardiac surgery.
Clinicians from the Ernst Moritz Arndt University Griefswald, Griefswald, Germany, evaluated a possible association between cardiac morbidity and mortality and the insertion (I)/deletion (D) polymorphism of the angiotensin I-converting enzyme following coronary bypass graft surgery (CABG).
Two hundred and forty nine consecutive patients who had undergone coronary artery bypass graft surgery had their ACE I/D genotype determined. Two years later, information relative to 247 of the patients was followed-up.
