Myeloid Progenitor Transfusion Protects Against Infection After Myeloablation

Transfusion of common myeloid progenitors (CMP) and granulocyte-monocyte progenitors (GMP) into mice after myeloablative treatment protected against invasive aspergillosis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, according to a report in the December 15, 2002, issue of Blood.

Pilot experiments demonstrated that cotransplantation of CMP/GMP along with hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) produced increases in splenic myelomonocytic cells without shortening the duration of peripheral blood neutropenia, the investigators from Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California explain.
