Researchers in the Netherlands and the United States have published evidence of local sympathetic denervation in the affected limb of patients with painful diabetic neuropathy.
The pain of diabetic neuropathy can be relieved by certain drugs that affect sympathetic nervous system function, such as amitriptyline and clonidine, Dr. David S. Goldstein at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Bethesda, Maryland, and colleagues note in the December issue of Diabetes.
