Viral rebound occurs in nearly half of HIV-infected patients who initially respond to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), according to the results of a pan-European study presented on Tuesday.
A total of 1470 patients from the EuroSida study were followed to determine the rate of virological rebound after viral suppression to undetectable levels using HAART. The incidence of rebound per 6-month period was then calculated overall, and in different patient subgroups.
