High dose reirradiation of patients with recurrent rectal carcinoma can be conducted “with acceptable risks” and “without prohibitive long-term side effects,” researchers report in the September 1st issue of Cancer.
Dr. Mohammed Mohiuddin of the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, and colleagues note that, in general, reirradiation of the pelvis has been avoided for fear of causing damage to normal tissue.
