A national campaign has been launched to rid Germany of bed sores, which organizers say inflict tremendous suffering and pain on the elderly and the ill but which could be easily avoided.
The goal of the campaign, organized by Campaign against Violence in Nursing Care (AGP), is to educate doctors, nurses, nursing care workers and others who work with people confined to bed or wheel chairs about pressure ulcers.
Klaus Grossjohann, who as managing director of the Board of Trustees for German Old-age Assistance is a leader of the AGP, told Reuters Health Friday that the easiest way to avoid bed sores is to ensure that people confined to bed or wheel chairs regularly change positions.
