Rofecoxib, a specific cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitor, appears to be a safe alternative for patients in whom aspirin or other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs induce asthma attacks, according to a report in the June issue of Chest.
Dr. Miguel Hinojosa and colleagues from Hospital Ram n y Cajal, in Madrid, Spain, examined 40 patients who had experienced asthma induced by ASA or NSAIDs to determine whether rofecoxib causes asthma attacks in these patients.
