In middle-aged men, abdominal obesity–more than overall obesity–is an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD), Finnish researchers report. Dr.
Hanna-Maaria Lakka, from the University of Kuopio, and colleagues collected data on 1346 men, 42 to 60 years of age, who were followed for a mean of 10.6 years in the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study. At baseline, these men did not have cardiovascular disease.
