China’s State Drug Administration has ordered the recall and immediate destruction of a drug used to treat a common skin disease, saying it raises the risk of contracting leukaemia, the Yangcheng Evening News reported.
The bureau ordered the recall of all forms of “yishuangmalin” or “bimolane” from factories and hospitals after Chinese academics campaigned to halt use of the drug for psoriasis, the newspaper’s October 23 issue said.
The paper, based in Guangzhou, said the drug appeared to affect the composition of human DNA and could trigger leukaemia during an incubation period of three months to 15 years.
