Routine cervical cytopathological screening appears to be as sensitive for adenocarcinoma in situ as it is for high-grade squamous lesions, investigators in Western Australia report.
Even though the rate of cervical screening has increased, and the incidence and mortality of squamous carcinoma has decreased in the screened population, there has been no concomitant reduction in the incidence and mortality of adenocarcinoma, Dr. Gregory F. Sterrett, of the Western Australian Centre for Pathology and Medical Research in Nedlands, and his associates point out.
