Patients taking serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are 12 times more likely to experience upper gastrointestinal bleeding than people who use neither, according to a report published in the January 13th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
In agreement with previous reports, the current findings also indicate that even use of SSRIs alone is associated with an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
