In men with rectal cancer, laparoscopically assisted resection is more likely to cause sexual dysfunction than conventional open resection, according to a recent report. In women, the two approaches are comparable in this regard. Bladder and sexual dysfunction are well known complications of rectal resection.
However, the occurrence of such problems following laparoscopically assisted resection has not been compared with that after conventional open resection.
