The findings from a small retrospective study suggest that radiation therapy (RT) may be an effective treatment for PSA recurrence after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. However, randomized clinical trials are needed to provide definitive evidence that RT is, in fact, a useful treatment.
The current findings are based on an analysis of data from 52 men who underwent RT for PSA recurrence after radical prostatectomy. On average, the patients were treated with RT 30.5 months after undergoing surgery. The mean follow-up period after RT was 27.7 months.
