Growth Hormone Increases Bone Density in Men With Osteoporosis

Among men with idiopathic osteoporosis, 2 years of treatment with recombinant human growth hormone increases bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC), Swedish researchers report.

Dr. Peter Gillberg from Orebro University Hospital, and colleagues randomly assigned 29 men, 27 to 62 years of age, with idiopathic osteoporosis to continuous daily injections of growth hormone (0.4 mg/day) or intermittent growth hormone treatment (0.8 mg/day for 14 days every 3 months). The men also received daily doses of calcium and vitamin D3.
