Patients with Crohn’s disease, who frequently have reduced bone mineral density, have a high prevalence of osteoporotic vertebral fracture, according to a report in the November issue of Gut.
In a prospective analysis, Dr. Christian von Tirpitz, of the University of Ulm, Germany, and colleagues examined the prevalence of osteoporotic vertebral fracture in 293 patients with Crohn’s disease. The patients were screened with dual energy x-ray absorptiometry of the lumbar spine and proximal right femur.
