The investigational chemotherapeutic drug Glivec (imatinib mesylate) increases the uptake of other chemotherapy drugs by solid tumours, according to early research presented at a cancer therapy meeting Wednesday.
Scandinavian researchers, who made the discovery, said that if animal studies are confirmed in humans, combining Glivec with other drugs could improve treatment for some of the most common cancers including those affecting the breast, colon and lung.
