Findings from a new study question the colon cancer-preventing effects of fiber consumption by showing that even higher-than-average fiber intake does not protect against adenoma recurrence.
In a previous study, known as the Wheat Bran Fiber (WBF) trial, it was found that adenoma recurrence was equally likely when high- or low-fiber supplements were used. However, it was unclear whether the benefits of fiber use may have been masked, since the subjects’ baseline fiber intake was higher than that typically found in the general population.
