A variety of skin disorders are often misdiagnosed as pyoderma gangrenosum, resulting in treatments that could be potentially harmful, according to a new study.

Certain infectious and malignant processes can masquerade as pyoderma gangrenosum, yet immunosuppressive therapy–standard treatment for pyoderma gangrenosum–may actually exacerbate these conditions.
