During tympanostomy tube placement in children, anesthesia is safe when administered by physicians at tertiary care children’s hospitals specializing in the care of children.
“The most frequent question I get from parents when we discuss their children’s need for ventilation tubes, is ‘I’m not worried about the ear tubes but how about the anesthesia?’,” Dr. Craig S. Derkay told Reuters Health. “It is really comforting for me to be able to tell them we’ve done 4000 consecutive ear tubes at our institution with pediatric anesthesiologists and we have had no major problems,” he said.
