Medical complications linked to biological, psychological and environmental factors are frequent in people with spinal cord injuries, a three-centre study in France has found.
The finding underlines the need for urgent priority to be given to identifying the mid- and long-term risks for these patients so that secondary prevention efforts can be improved, suggest these authors.
Dr R Klotz from the Centre de Médecine Physique et de Réadaptation de la Tour de Gassies, Bruges, with others from France, sought to investigate short- and long-term medical complications in patients with tetraplegic spinal cord injury, with particular focus on the respective medical and socio-economic factors with which they are linked.
