Birth Weight Differences Tied to Later Blood Pressure Differences in Male Twins

Within male twin pairs, A one-kilogram difference in weight within twin pairs at birth is associated with differences in systolic blood pressure (BP) at age 17 to 19 years.

Swedish and British researchers say the findings provide little support for the foetal origins hypothesis. Their results indicate the one-kg difference in birth weight within twin pairs is associated with a -1.30mmHg difference in systolic BP for monozygotic (MZ) twins and a +0.14mmHg difference in dizygotic (DZ) twins.

With combined results for all twins, the associated difference is – 0.21mmHg.
