Pathology findings upon colonoscopic removal of colorectal adenomas may be used to determine the frequency of follow-up examinations, according to a report in the September issue of Gut.
In patients with none of these features–that is, low-risk patients–an estimated 12.2 years would be needed for the development of advanced adenoma in more than 10% of patients. In contrast, the report indicates, more than 10% of high-risk patients (with any of these features) would be expected to develop advanced adenomas in an estimated 6.1 years.
