Measurement of anaerobic threshold is more reliable than calculation from heart rate parameters of exercise testing for the determination of target intensity level of exercise training after a coronary event, researchers report.
“We found a high correlation between the mean heart rate at the anaerobic threshold and the mean calculated training heart rate,” lead researcher Dr. Wybe Nieuwland told Reuters Health.
However, due to a wide range of heart rates at the anaerobic threshold in almost 40% of patients, there was an important difference between calculated training heart rate and the heart rate at anaerobic threshold, he added.
