Children who unintentionally ingest less than one box of superwarfarin can be managed without gastric decontamination or prophylactic vitamin K, researchers report
. Dr. Richard Clark from the California Poison Control System, San Diego, and colleagues prospectively studied 545 children under 6 years of age who were reported to the system for acute unintentional superwarfarin ingestion.
The researchers excluded any child who received gastric decontamination or prophylactic vitamin K. Among these children, 463 were available for follow-up. None of the children had clinically significant coagulopathy, the researchers report in the July issue of the Annals of Emergency Medicine.
