Preliminary analysis of data from the Swedish Twin Registry suggests that estrogen is neuroprotective and the effect is not related to length of estrogen therapy.
The findings were reported here July 23 at the 8th International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (IADRD).
Nancy Pederson, PhD, professor of genetics and epidemiology, University of California-Los Angeles, California, United States, said the data confirm earlier observations among brain researchers that “estrogen is clearly protective of the central nervous system.”
