NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 15 –
Recurrent exercise-related syncopal episodes in athletes who do not have cardiac disease appears to be benign, Italian researchers report in the July 15th issue of the European Heart Journal.
Dr. Furio Colivicchi from the Ospedale ‘S. Filippo Neri’, Rome, and colleagues studied 33 athletes who were referred for unexplained episodes of exercise-related syncope. All the patients underwent evaluation that included echocardiogram, 24-hour electrocardiographic monitoring, exercise testing, cardiac electrophysiological study and head-up tilt testing.
