NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 03 –
A newly devised, highly specific test for prostate cancer, if combined with the highly sensitive prostate specific antigen (PSA) test, has the potential to become a clinically useful method for identifying prostate cancer, investigators report in The Journal of Urology for July.
Dr. Charles A. Seabury, of Emory University in Atlanta, and associates point out that cell surface proteins become deglycosylated during malignant transformation. The exposed peptide sequences could then act as antigens previously unrecognized by the host immune system, resulting in tumor-specific antibody production.
