SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters Health) Jun 21 –
A test that could help detect whether an athlete has illicitly used human growth hormone as a performance-enhancing drug may be available by the next Olympic games, researchers reported here Thursday at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting.
“Doping with human growth hormone can be detected for up to 36 hours,” said study author Dr. Zida Wu, a senior scientist in the neuroendocrine unit at Innenstadt University Hospital and at Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. Until now, there has been no official test, Dr. Wu added.
