NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 27 –
Japanese researchers working with a mouse model have shown that cisplatin encapsulated in PEG liposomes conjugated to transferrin (Tf-PEG liposomes) may become a new approach to treating gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination.
Dr. Hisae Iinuma from Teikyo University School of Medicine, Tokyo, and colleagues developed the Tf-PEG liposomes to increase tumor specificity, since transferrin is taken up by cells via the Tf receptor, which are overexpressed on various tumor cells.
