Patients tend to prefer manual therapy involving specific mobilization techniques over physical therapy or care involving analgesics, counseling, and education, according to a
report in the Annals of Internal Medicine for May 21.
A total of 183 patients with nonspecific neck pain were randomized to one of the three treatment groups. According to Dr. Jan Lucas Hoving, of Monash University in Malvern, Australia, and associates, the 60 patients assigned to manual therapy received an “eclectic” approach.
This included muscular and articular mobilization techniques that were used during 6 weekly
sessions, but no low amplitude, high-velocity thrust techniques were employed.
