NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 13 –

US adolescents who follow a vegetarian diet are more likely than adolescents who are not vegetarians to meet the Healthy People 2010 dietary objectives established by the US Department of Health and Human Services, researchers report. Dr. Cheryl L. Perry, and colleagues from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, collected data on 4746 adolescents, mean 14.9 years of age.

Participants completed the Youth and Adolescent Food Frequency Questionnaire, which asked about dietary intake. They were also questioned about vegetarian status and which foods they excluded from their diet.
